We’re super excited to be welcoming a selection of rare and native breed sheep to the festival this weekend.
You can meet Icelandic sheep, which were the sheep that the Vikings took on their voyages, plus Shetlands, Gotlands and white Leicester Longwool.
There will also be:
Gotlands, Ryelands, Shetlands, Leicester long wool and a special treat on Sunday when some Derbyshire gritstones (pictured) join us.
The Derbyshire Gritstone is one of the oldest of British hill breeds. It is believed to have originated on the hills of the Dale of Goyt (now better known as the Goyt Valley) on the edge of the Peak District around the year 1770 and they were known in their early years as the Dale O’Goyt sheep.
(We know the sheep are a main highlight of the festival but we cannot state until a few days before which breeds are coming, and even now, those coming are subject to change due to the sheep’s health and wellbeing naturally which is the farmer’s paramount concern.)
Come along and meet them all at this weekend’s Festival. Starts at 10am Saturday and Sunday morning.
